Not-for-profit organisations are doing some of the most important work in our communities - often with limited resources, legacy systems, and small teams juggling big missions.

What many organisations don’t realise is that there is significant philanthropic support available to help modernise technology and ways of working.

What is the Atlassian Foundation?

The Atlassian Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Atlassian, built on a 1% model - contributing 1% of equity, profit, employee time, and products to social impact initiatives. Its mission is to help organisations improving educational opportunities and broader social outcomes to work more effectively.

The Foundation connects eligible not-for-profits with technology, funding, and expert Atlassian partners (such as ourselves at Interfuze Consulting - a certified Atlassian Gold Partner) to support digital transformation and collaboration.

How the Foundation Supports Not-for-Profits

1. Atlassian Solution Grants

These grants fund partnerships between eligible not-for-profits and certified Atlassian Solution accepted into the Grants program, such as Interfuze. Grants are provided towards the cost of your Atlassian implementation and vary depending on your project.

Examples of work that grants can be requested for include, but are not limited to;

  • Cloud migration and implementation
  • Workflow design and optimisation
  • Tool configuration (Jira, Confluence, etc.)
  • Team training and enablement

2. “Ask an Atlassian” Expert Support

Not-for-profits can be connected with certified Atlassian Partners to:

  • Understand which tools are right for their organisation
  • Get guidance on setup and best practices
  • Receive tailored recommendations for collaboration and project tracking

3. Deep Partnerships and Tailored Support

The Foundation also engages in multi-year partnerships with large social impact organisations, providing funding, expertise, and tailored operational support to help them scale their impact.

4. Discounted or Free Software Licences

Eligible not-for-profits can access:

  • Free or heavily discounted Atlassian licences
  • Typically 50–75% discounts, and sometimes full waivers

How the Process Works

  1. Eligibility Verification
Organisations are verified via Atlassian Foundation to confirm not-for-profit status.
  2. Application
    Verified organisations can apply for:
    • Solution Grants
    • Ask an Atlassian sessions via the Atlassian for Nonprofits program.
  3. Partner Matching
The Foundation matches eligible organisations with specialised Atlassian partners to deliver funded consultancy and implementation support.

What the Support Can Cover

Subsidised services may include:

  • Cloud migrations
  • New system implementations
  • Workflow and collaboration design
  • Staff training and enablement
  • Optimisation of existing tools and processes

A Recent WA Example

We recently connected one of Western Australia’s leading medical research institutes with the Atlassian Foundation. We’re excited that this has resulted in Foundation-funded support to upgrade their cloud capability - helping their teams collaborate more effectively and focus on research outcomes rather than technology constraints.

A Call to the WA Not-for-Profit Community

If you work with a not-for-profit or are part of one - this is a public service announcement:

  • There is funding and expert technology support available to modernise how your organisation works
